At MMC, we are Cannabis experts and we are here to guide you back on the path to brain clarity. If you are reading this article and have not experienced a Cannabis Hangover– look no further. A Cannabis Hangover is not like an alcohol hangover, in the sense that you will not be laying on the couch with a pounding headache or gripping the toilet bowl looking for salvation. Instead, a Cannabis hangover is comparable to waking up with a cold. You are groggy, lethargic, dehydrated, and a little slower than usual. The science behind a Cannabis hangover can be attributed to Cannabinoids that trigger receptors throughout the body and brain to turn off. Luckily, Cannabis hangovers can be easily prevented. If you want to read our other blog on that click here. This article outlines some useful tips and tricks that will help you prevent and nurse a Cannabis hangover so that you can get back to doing the things you love. 1.Eat HealthyIt’s important to eat healthy before, during, and after you consume cannabis. Cannabis affects the respiratory system and engages your liver and kidney as it metabolizes cannabis. By consuming healthy foods, you’ll stabilize your blood sugar and jump-start your recovery. We know that high THC strains give users the munchies, but it’s important to channel the munchies into consuming healthy foods, this way you will wake up feeling great. We recommend eating a meal prior to consuming cannabis that is full of complex carbs, proteins, vegetables and sugars from fruits.
2.ExerciseHaving a healthy lifestyle is vital for avoiding cannabis hangovers. Sweating while exercising improves blood flow, cardiovascular health and breathing. Exercising before consuming Cannabis will improve blood pressure and heart rate and will expand your experience both during and after a high. 3.Stay HydratedIt’s important to stay hydrated before, during and after consuming Cannabis. Staying hydrated keeps your body functioning at its best—which also improves your high and your come down. In addition to some good old H20, we also recommend liquids high in electrolytes like sports drinks or natural sources of electrolytes like fruits. If you do experience a Cannabis hangover, we recommend drinking lots of water. It’s a good way to wake up your sleeping cells and get back to your high-functioning self. 4.VitaminsIf you are a regular Cannabis user and can’t live without it, we recommend taking Vitamin supplements like Vitamin C and Vitamin B-Complex. Taking these vitamins before and after consumption will also help offset a Cannabis hangover. 5.Get Fresh AirGetting fresh air helps clear the mind and gives your body fresh oxygen to inhale and replenish the body with.

The post How to Prevent & Nurse a Cannabis Hangover appeared first on Medical Marijuana Consulting. https://goo.gl/maps/2NYVSZkAWs82 Many first-time users were hesitant to try Cannabis because of the misconceptions and stigma that has surrounded cannabis for decades. Because Cannabis has been illegal for so long, a lot of people’s experience with Cannabis was scaring. Hitting a bong in high school with product that was from some random dealer in town is not the same as Medical Cannabis. Since the legalization of Medical Cannabis in the last decade, the government has put strict regulations on Cannabis that include limiting pesticides and herbicides and ensuring consistency across products. Cannabis has a ton of medicinal benefits that almost everyone can benefit from, and there have been zero deaths directly reported to Cannabis and Cannabis is not addictive; thus, the upside is huge! Many of our patients use Cannabis as a natural sleep aid and pain killer. The most frequently asked question we get when our patients are first-time medical users is “Will Weed Give Me a Hangover.” The answer is both yes and no, because it depends on the person and how you use it. Cannabis can cause a mild hangover, which is not to be confused with the terrible effects of alcohol. Cannabis “hangovers” result in feeling a little foggy, dehydrated and lethargic the next day. The best way to avoid Cannabis hangovers is to buy clean/tested Cannabis and to drink lots of water, eat healthy, and exercise. The next way to swerve hangovers is to avoid high-potency strains. If you are experiencing a weed hangover, the worst thing you can do is consume a high-potency strain, as this will aggravate the hangover. We also recommend starting low and slow and building up your tolerance. Our method and mantra is to get you back on track with your daily routine. We understand that you cannot do this if you are feeling foggy in the morning and are struggling to get out of bed. This is why we always air on the starting with low prescription and dosage amounts; it allows you to be in control of your medicine and work your way up without compromising your day-to-day. Cannabis is a great alternative to prescription or over the counter sleep aids. Especially because Cannabis has not been found to be addictive, nor has it ever resulted in death. Cannabis has been proven to help people fall asleep faster by slowing racing thoughts, reduce pain, and relax physically. Here are another 5 reasons why you should consider Cannabis for sleep! 1.There are Specific Cannabinoids that are good for sleepCannabinoids are the natural chemical compounds that give cannabis its medicinal benefits. THC, CBD, and CBN are the three best-known Cannabinoids that have effects on sleep. However, these cannabinoids affect sleep differently. This is because, on its own, CBD is a non-psychoactive, so taking a high CBD strain that is low in THC won’t put you to sleep if you suffer from insomnia because it won’t sedate you. If you don’t suffer from issues falling asleep, CBD strains have been proven to improve your quality of sleep. The best option for most patients that have insomnia is either a 1:1 THC/CBD strain or a high THC strain that is low in CBD. This is because THC is psychoactive, and its properties are sedative. It is because of this that you want a strain, oil, or edible that has a higher THC percentage so that you can fall asleep faster and stay asleep longer. 2. Terpenes in Cannabis Also Help You Fall AsleepCannabinoids hog all the attention online when it comes to talking about Cannabis and sleep. However, Terpenes also play a vital role in the effectiveness of Cannabis as a natural sleep aid. Terpenes are molecules that create the taste and smell of Cannabis. Terpenes can be found elsewhere in nature, including plants, fruits and flowers. There are more than 150 different terpenes that makeup Cannabis’s distinctive taste and smells. Terpenes also contribute to the varying effects of Cannabis—including sleep. Read our blog on Terpenes to learn about the core five terpenes that are most frequently discussed. MyrceneMyrcene is just one of many terpenes found within the Cannabis plant. Myrcene gives Cannabis a smell of musk and cloves, with notes of citrus and tropical fruit. Myrcene is an anti-inflammatory, has relaxing and sedating properties, while also helps to aid muscle tension, insomnia and pain. Scientists believe it could be responsible for the “couch-lock” feeling that Cannabis provides. Myrcene is also found in a lot of fruits and herbs, including Mango, lemongrass, thyme and basil. 3. Cannabis Will Help You Experience a Deeper SleepStudies have shown that THC affects the time spent in different stages of sleep. Specifically, THC has been proven to decrease the time spent in REM sleep and increase the time spent in low-wave sleep. The reduced time a patient spends in REM significantly reduces dreaming—which has been proven useful for patients who suffer from PTSD. 4. Cannabis Can Help Sleep ApneaCannabis has also been proven to help improve breathing at night. Several studies* have shown that Cannabis may improve Sleep Apnea because of THC’s ability to restore raspatory stability by modulating serotonin signalling. **https://www.frontiersin.org/articles/10.3389/fpsyt.2013.00001/full**https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed?Db=pubmed&Cmd=ShowDetailView&TermToSearch=120715395. How You Consume Cannabis Will Effect You DifferentlyThe way you consume Cannabis should depend on the issues you face for sleep. For example, if you have issues falling asleep, we recommend inhalation through combustion or vaping. Inhaling Cannabis has an instant onset, which helps sedate you instantly. Inhaling Cannabis will slow down your thoughts, relax your muscles and will get you ready for sleep. The high experienced from inhaling cannabis will also last anywhere from 2-4 hours. If you have issues staying asleep, we recommend an edible. Whether it be a gummy or oil, edibles are the best solution for those who wake up frequently throughout the night. You can purchase edibles in the same way you can buy dried flower—meaning, you can get edibles that are high in THC, 1:1 ratio, only CBD, etc. The only difference between edibles and inhalation is the onset time and how long the effects last. Edibles are digested through your metabolism and then travel through the bloodstream. The onset time is determined by a number of factors, including the rate at which your metabolism breaks down food, your height/weight/age, what you ate before consuming the edible, if you consumed on an empty stomach, etc. Thus, the onset time can be anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour. The duration of its effects can last anywhere from 4-6 hours. If you are interested in trying Cannabis for sleep but have questions, please contact us today. At MMC, we love to celebrate all holidays with Cannabis and we wanted to take the time to share some of our favourite cannabis treats that your guests will LOVE! POMEGRANATE CANNABIS COCKTAILIngredients Directions 1. Pour the sparkling water into a glass. 4.Top with more sparkling water, then garnish with fresh pomegranate seeds and a leaf. Note: If the starting cannabis flower is about 10 percent THC, then 4 grams equal 400 mg THC total. As the recipe makes 3 cups of liquid/24 oz , each oz would contain about 16-17 percent THC. Since the mocktail calls for 3 oz of simple syrup, each drink would have 50mg of THC per serving — which is intended for a heavy user with no major plans for the evening. You can alter the recipe to 1 oz infused simple syrup for a light cannabis consumer, for a drink with 16-17 percent THC, and 2 oz infused syrup for a medium tolerance, for a drink with about 33 per activated THC per serving. CANNA-CHOCOLATE DIPPED STRAWBERRIESIngredients Directions ** Please keep track of how much dry cannabis is equivalent to the cannabutter to ensure you are following the daily limits imposed by your physician’s prescription. The post Cannabis Sugar Cookies Recipe appeared first on Medical Marijuana Consulting. https://goo.gl/maps/2NYVSZkAWs82 Ever wonder what the difference between joints, blunts and spliffs is? Well, you’re not alone. This blog will explain the confusion regarding joints, blunts and spliffs and will explain why they are different! If you’re new to cannabis, it is important to know the three categories of rolls, these are joints, blunts and spliffs. Each is defined by their cannabis to tobacco ratio as well as the paper material that is used. Some paper materials include tobacco, hemp, and wood pulp to name a few. Joints and blunts only contain cannabis, whereas spliffs are a hybrid of cannabis and tobacco. Blunts are rolled with tobacco paper which makes them appear thicker than joints. Blunts are also heavier because they are rolled in thicker paper and are often dark brown in colour. Joints and spliffs are rolled in lighter, often, partially translucent paper. Joints also often include paper filter, as it adds stability to the roll and allows you to enjoy the roll without burning your fingers. The biggest differentiator is the experience of spoking either a joint, blunt or spliff. A spliff gives you more of a headrush and “buzz” because of the tobacco. People who smoke spliffs often compare the feeling to that of an espresso shot. Interestingly, joints tend to be the most popular across the world. Many think this is because of the stigma that is attached to tobacco. What is your preferred rolled cannabis? The post The Difference Between Joints, Blunts and Spliffs appeared first on Medical Marijuana Consulting. https://goo.gl/maps/2NYVSZkAWs82 Are you interested in taking CBD, or you already are and are loving the effects but are scared you are risking your job? If you are, you are not alone—and this is why we are writing this blog. Many of our patients are unsure about CBD, as the recent changes in the market have left significant gaps in understanding and a lot of greys. If you are interested in learning how to make your CBD last longer click to read our blog here, or if you want to know how long CBD stays in your system click to read our blog here. Now, for the good stuff! In most cases, it’s highly unlikely that CBD oil will cause a positive test result in a drug screening. This is because most drug tests are designed to test for the presence of THC or THC metabolites. There are different types of drug tests that have varying detection thresholds for THC. However, the most common is a urine test. Urine tests typically have a lower threshold for detection. Most employers generally follow the guidelines presented in the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services (SAMHSA), which includes detection for THC but not CBD. Under the SAMHSA framework, the limit for THC is 50 nanograms per millilitre. A nanogram is one-billionth of a gram. It’s also important to know that hemp-derived CBD products are legally allowed to contain up to 0.3% THC. However, this is not a cause for alarm. This amount of THC won’t cause a false positive result on a drug test unless you are consuming an insane amount. You would need to take a dosage of about 1,000 to 2,000 milligrams per day of full-spectrum CBD oil to risk a positive drug test result. If you’re still not sold and want to be absolutely safe, we recommend you buy a broad-spectrum oil or products that contain pure CBD isolate. Broad-spectrum oil is refined to exclude THC from hemp plants, while CBD isolates contain no THC or other plant-based cannabinoids. To ensure that your CBD contains no THC, it’s essential to source products from reputable producers that provide a certificate of analysis from a third-party testing lab. The recent explosion of CBD has caused many questions—and has left many wondering about CBD. Click here to read our other blog on CBD that explores how long CBD lasts in the body.
The best way to understand how to make CBD oil last longer is first to understand that the way CBD has ingested changes both the onset and lasting amount of time that you will experience the plant. For starters, inhalation, either through vaping or smoking is the best way to experience the effects immediately as the product is onset instantly. Whereas ingesting cannabis will take longer for it to kick in, but it will also last longer in the system. The amount of time it will take to feel the effects through ingestion is entirely dependent on your body–i.e. how fast you metabolize food and what you ate before ingesting CBD.
Below are the main methods which will explain the pros and cons of consuming CBD and which methods extend the presence of CBD in the body:
Ingestion Consuming CBD orally by putting a few drops of oil under the tongue is the most common method. It is very convenient and easy to do. However, this isn’t the most effective method if you want to feel the benefits instantly. By swallowing the oil, you prevent CBD from entering your bloodstream immediately. Instead, the CBD has to travel through the digestive tract and, eventually, the liver, where it is broken down before finally reaching the bloodstream.
In fact, research has shown that when the liver metabolizes CBD compounds, they undergo a phenomenon called the “first-pass effect.” The first-past effect is when cytochrome P450 (CYP450) oxidases enzymes in the liver and reduce CBD concentration before the remainder is finally sent to the bloodstream and circulated throughout the body.
It is because of this that oral consumption of CBD is a rather inefficient method of consumption compared with inhalation or sublingual administration. This is because only about 5% of swallowed CBD ends up in the bloodstream (low bioavailability).
Additionally, when you ingest CBD, it can take anywhere from 1-2 hours before the effects of CBD will kick-in.
Sublingual Sublingual is considered more effective then ingestion, this is when you put a few drops of oil under the tongue and hold it for 2-4 minutes. After 2-4 minutes, you want to use your tongue to rub the remainder on the inside of your cheeks before swallowing. By consuming CBD sublingually, you bypass the digestive system and liver because CBD transfers to the bloodstream via the mucous membranes located in the mouth. Sublingual consumption avoids the “first-pass” metabolism process, where CBD molecules are broken down in the liver, allowing it to enter the bloodstream sooner and in more abundance than ingestion.
Inhalation Like sublingual consumption, inhalation is also an effective way to consume cannabis. This is because of the rapid rate in which the product is absorbed into the lungs. When inhaled, CBD is transferred into the bloodstream—which has higher bioavailability. Additionally, research shows that CBD reaches peak concentrations in plasma within 3 minutes after inhalation, meaning the effects can be felt shortly after use.
However, when inhaling cannabis, it can be found in the bloodstream for up to 72 hours after smoking.
Topical There are many different forms of topical CBD where the product has been infused, including lotions, creams, salves, and other health and wellness products. Topicals are designed to be absorbed through the surface of the skin. In Topicals, the CBD interacts with localized cannabinoid receptors after it starts to absorb. In most cases, CBD-infused topicals should be applied liberally because they often have a low cannabinoid absorption rate. By applying a lot of creams, you allow more CBD to pass through the cells on the outermost layer of the skin (also known as the keratinocyte membranes)
When CBD is applied topically, it has a permeability rate that is ten times higher than THC. Additionally, CBD effects peak after about 90 minutes.
