If you’re planning to make edibles or tinctures from cannabis you’ll need to undergo the decarboxylation process. Not sure what decarbing is? No problem! You have come to the right place. Decarbing allows you to convert the THCA found in your dried buds and trim to THC. By doing this, your edibles and tinctures will be more potent, will take effect more quickly, and will make them safer and more effective. Decarbing most often occurs when cannabis is smoked, meaning you have to do this before you start the cooking/baking process. Here are the 3 steps needed to Decarb your cannabis!
In order to Decarb you will need the following:
If you are using sugar leaves or kief you can proceed to the next step. If you are using full buds you will need to use a grinder to grind them roughly.
You will want to preheat the oven to 220 F / 150 C. While the oven is preheating, you can line a baking sheet with the parchment paper. Spread your cannabis evenly over the sheet, and if you see any big pieces, you will want to break them up with your hands. If you have too much cannabis that it doesn’t fit evenly on the pan you will want to divide the batch in two. You want it to look like one fairly thin layer. If you crowd it, it will not dry properly.
Once the oven is at the desired temperature, you will want to put the baking sheet into the oven. If you are using dried trim, kief you will want to keep the tray inside for 25 minutes. If you are using fresher cannabis you may want to keep the tray inside for an additional 25 minutes. A hygrometer can be a useful tool to help you see how much moisture is left. Finally, once the cannabis is nice and dry you will want to let it sit out on the counter until it has cooled down.
